Still Speaking Circles
Are
you looking for a way to get to know other members of our church family?
Do you ever wish for a place to share your life story, questions, humor,
doubts, hopes?
Do you ever wonder what God might be saying to you?
If these questions resonate with you, consider joining
our small group ministry program! We took the name Still
Speaking Circles for our small group ministry in reference
to one of the core ideas of our United Church of Christ theology: the
ongoing revelation of God, summed up in the phrase “God is Still Speaking.”
The small group ministry format combines
• Informal devotional time
• Checking in about how members’ lives are going
• Topical content based on any mutual interest of the members (baseball,
quilting, economic justice, parenting – the possibilities are endless)
• Occasional service in the church and the wider community, and
• An expectation that over time, each group of approximately 10 people
will grow, split and replicate itself, in ever-widening Circles, so that
more members and friends of the congregation can participate.
Our Still Speaking Circles generally meet once per month
in members’ homes, and they can be focused on any area of interest to
the members – basketball, ending world hunger, photography, reading books
together, etc.
Our pilot Circle focused on theological exploration,
but we are open to other possibilities as we seek to create one or more
new Circles.
Whatever the focus, Still Speaking Circles are flexibly but thoughtfully
structured to allow church members to get to know one another, to laugh
together, to serve the church and community together – and most of all,
to listen to one another’s stories, and to explore together our hopes,
doubts, questions, confusions and experiences of the Holy.
