The handbell program at First Congregational Church began in 1990 with two octaves of Malmark handbells. We had one choir and rang for the first time at the opening of the Goodwill playground on Green Street. Since then we have rung at weekly services, weddings, funerals, holiday concerts, AGEHR sponsored conferences & invitational rings … the list goes on!

We now have 4+ octaves of handbells, 4+ octaves of choirchimes, rhythm instruments, deskbells, beginner small handbells, boomwackers and an ever-growing music library. Nearly all of our instruments and music have been donated and/or purchased in memory or honor of special people and occasions. We proudly and lovingly “Ring to the Glory of God” whenever we can!

Our “FOB’s,” Friends of Bells, are a blessing and we could not ring without their enthusiasm, support and yes …. applause. They support us in church, at local events, and even journey to nearby states to “see & hear” the bells at conference concerts.

We partake in fundraising events such as the all-church fair Country Store and bi-annual Holiday Handbell Concerts. All of these fundraisers help us maintain the handbells and choirchimes, purchase music and add to the rhythm instruments that so greatly enhance the music we offer to you.

Youthchimer/Choirchimers

Rehearsals: Thursdays, 4:45 - 5:20 PM
Meeting Place: Sanctuary

Youngsters in grades 2-6 who are eager to ring choirchimes are invited to join us as we learn to read music, play simple rhythms and have fun making music.

Kabanas: Intergenerational

Rehearsals: Thursdays, 5:30 - 6:20 PM
Meeting Place: Sanctuary

This group is comprised of ringers who have had some previous ringing experience with choirchimes or bells. Reading music is a plus, but we help you learn to read to music too! Kabanas offers mentors who ring right along with youngsters/teens providing support and sharing advice on techniques, rhythm and basic bell skills.

Handbell Harmonies
Rehearsals: Thursdays, 6:30 - 7:45 PM
Meeting Place: Sanctuary

For adults who read music & ring handbells. This bell choir has been the longest ringing group in our church handbell program. New, experienced ringers are encouraged on a substitute basis and can join the choir as positions become available. We encourage you to ring and grow with us. Our rehearsals are open for you to observe and enjoy any Thursday evening.

We encourage a willingness to learn to ring, but just as importantly ……. having FUN! We generally ring the second Sunday of each month and at special services including Easter & Christmas.
